Introduction

SINOPEC has been engaged in the R&D of hyrotreating and hytrocracking processes under middle or high pressure conditions for many years. SINOPEC’s FMD1 and RHC-M technologies are used to convert a wide variety of heavy feedstocks including VGO or the blends of VGO, CGO and DAO into superior middle distillates as well as certain amount of excellent naphtha and/or hydrocracked tail oil (unconverted oil). In these technologies two reactors in series are used, the first one is filled with hydrotreating catalyst and the second is filled with hydrocracking catalyst. By selecting proper catalysts and optimizing process conditions, the process objectives can be achieved.

Technical Characteristics

1. FMD1 (or RHC-M) technology applies single-stage in series process configuration with three operating modes: Once-through, partial or full tail oil recycle mode.

2. The process has good feedstock adaptability and can process VGO or the blends of VGO, CGO and DAO with nitrogen content not more than 2000 wppm and end boiling point (EBP) not higher than 600 ℃.

3. The chemical hydrogen consumption is low.

4. The yields of middle distillates and liquid products are high. Superior target products, such as clean diesel with low sulfur content and high cetane number, jet fuel with high smoke point, and naphtha with high aromatics potential content, can be achieved, while the tail oil with low BMCI value can be used as ethylene plant feedstock.

5. The catalysts used possess high activity, good stability, low initial reaction temperature and long running period. 6. The process has no special safety and environmental protection problems in operation.
