Introduction

Pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation (PGH) technology is used for hydrotreating pyrolysis gasoline (PG) from naphtha and gas oil steam cracker. PG is a main by-product of ethylene steam cracking system.
SINOPEC has engaged in R&D on hydrogenation technology and its catalysts for many years. This technology has been successful used in several new-built/revamping units since the first revamping case at Yanshan pygas plant in 1994. In the last 20 years, PGH technology has been well-developed and perfected with massive experience from applications. It is competitive with similar hydrogenation technologies.

Technical Characteristics

1. Pd or Ni series catalysts are used in the 1st hydrogenation reactor. They provide good performance and operation at lower temperature, resulting in low energy consumption and elimination of traditional start-up heater.
2. Co-Mo-Ni series catalysts with long operating cycle are used in the 2nd hydrogenation reactor. Low initial operating temperature can be applied.
3. Sinopec-developed slant-hole tray with large throughput, high efficiency and low pressure drop is used. It has advantages of low cost, high loading and good anti-fouling performance.
4. In case of high arsenic concentration in PG (50ppb, cumene hydroperoxide) is used for arsenic removal. This method has the advantages of steady operating environment, good efficiency, and no special equipment is required.
